On Saturday, August 7th, I took the twins to celebrate Katie Lee's third birthday. Kaylee wasn't feeling well. So she didn't get to stay for the entire party. Dylan had a great time. He never got in the water, but he enjoyed eating the frozen ice pops. He loves those. I must admit that I kept taking bites off of them myself. He loved drawing on the patio with the sidewalk chalk. I think his favorite part was going inside for the birthday cake. They had the cutest decorations on the tables. There was a bowl of jelly beans and marshmallows. Dylan just about cleaned out the bowl on his table. I had to make him stop before he made himself sick. We enjoyed celebrating Katie Lee's birthday and look forward to next year!
I didn't have my camera. So the two pictures I did get aren't that great. I had to use my cellphones camera. I still wanted to post them though. So, here they are.

I have no idea what makes the rides that you see out in malls or retail stores so much fun, but my kids love them.

On Thursday, July 22nd, we headed out to visit some family in Chicago, Illinois. It was me, Dylan, Kaylee, and my mom and dad. I decided to drive half way before stopping for the night. We got up early the next morning to drive the rest of the way. We got checked in at our hotel and met my grandfather for supper. I drove this trip when the twins were 3 months old.
I was surprised at how much I remembered about where things were. They live in the suburbs on the west side of Chicago. It started raining right after we got there. We woke up the next morning to find out that there were major flooding issues. One of my aunt's houses got hit by lightening and caught on fire. As if that wasn't enough it was flooded, and the fire trucks couldn't even get down the street to put the fire out. She ended up having to leave her house for 2 days. We spent Saturday with most of the family. My aunt (who is younger than me) lives in a really nice neighborhood. They had a little playground where we took the kids to play.

By Sunday Kaylee was beginning to really have a nasty cough. I decided to get up early and take her to a walk in clinic. We got there and were the only ones there. They got us right back. The doctor listened to her and said that he thought she had bronchitis so he wrote her a prescription for an antibiotic. After getting the medicine we headed to the train station to head into the city. It was about an hour and fifteen minute train ride. The kids really liked the train ride. We left Union Station and got a taxi to take us to Navy Pier. We took a boat tour of the city. Dylan and I decided to tough out the heat and sit up top. Everyone else went down below where it was a little cooler.

After the boat ride we were a little hungry so we ate at Harry Caray's Tavern. We walked around and checked out the scenary before heading over to let the twins ride the carousel. Kaylee felt so bad that she wouldn't even sit on a horse by herself. I decided it was time to head back to the hotel. We went to Union Station and caught the train back.

By this time she had begun to run a fever. I tried to get it down for the next day and a half. I wasn't able to keep it down so we got up early Tuesday and loaded up to come home. It takes about 10 hours to drive straight through. I didn't have much sleep, but somehow I was able to stay awake. It took me 11 hours to get back with a few stops for gas and food. After I dropped everyone off I took Kaylee to the emergency Room. It took 4 hours to get the results of what was wrong with her. She ended up having a UTI and pneumonia. They gave her a shot in the leg with the longest needle I have ever seen. At this point she had started to throw up. I felt so sorry for her, but she was being a very good girl. The doctor even commented on how she was better than most adults. I am so glad that I got her back home and got her some medicine to make her feel better.

So to sum it all up this wasn't a great trip, but definately one that will be remembered.
